For friends
Your friends’ birthdays, and their kids’, without asking
Friends are the hardest birthdays to keep track of. They aren’t in your contacts with a date, half of them left Facebook, and asking again feels awkward. Then they have children, and now there are names and ages to remember too. With Hoera you drop one link in the group chat, and everyone adds their own birthday, and their kids’.

How to keep track of friends’ birthdays
- 1
Add yourself
Your name, your birthday and your email. Ready in a minute. - 2
Drop one link in the group chat
Create a group with the name of your chat and share the link. Nobody has to install anything. - 3
Your friends add themselves, and their kids
Everyone fills in their own birthday. Parents add their children with the date of birth. - 4
You get a reminder in time
A weekly overview by email, and an earlier nudge for the people you put a heart on.
This is how it lands in the group
You can put it in your own words before you send it.
And then your friends had kids
First there was one baby in the group, and everyone knew the date. A few years later there are nine children, and you are quietly counting on your fingers whether Milo is turning four or five, and whose Milo is again.
- Every child is on the calendar with the age they turn, so you never have to guess.
- The card says whose child it is: ‘Milo · child of Sanne’.
- A small cake appears a week before, in time for a present or a message.
- Put a heart on your godchild or your best friend’s kids for an extra reminder.
That is how you become the auntie or uncle to your friends’ kids who always remembers. Not by having a better memory, but by having it written down by the people who know.
When a friend forgets your child’s birthday
It stings, and it is one of the most discussed small hurts between friends, especially between friends with and without children. Almost always the reason is plain: the date was never anywhere they would see it. A child’s birthday isn’t in a phone, and nobody likes to ask twice.
You can’t make people care more, and you don’t need to. You can make it easy. Share the link in the group, add your child, and from then on your friends get the reminder themselves. The ones who love your kid will be glad you did.
A friends’ birthday app, without the app
Hoera runs in the browser on iPhone, Android and your computer. That matters in a friend group, because there is always one person who won’t install something new. Here nobody has to. More on the reminders on birthday reminders, and for the family side see the grandkids birthday calendar.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an app to keep track of friends’ birthdays?+
Hoera does it without an install. It runs in the browser on any phone, your friends join with one link, and the reminders come by email. You can add it to your home screen like an app.
Do my friends need an account?+
Not in the usual sense. They tap the link, enter their name, birthday and email, and confirm once with a code from their inbox. Nothing to download.
How do my friends’ kids get in?+
Their parents add them, with the date of birth, and choose which group gets to see them. You then see the child’s name, whose child it is and the age they turn.
What if a friend doesn’t join?+
Then add that friend, or their child, to your own calendar yourself. Only you see that entry, and you still get the reminder.
Can my friends see how old I am?+
Only if you fill in your year of birth, and you can hide it per group. Otherwise they just see the day and the month.
Does it cost anything?+
No. The calendar and the email reminders are free. Only reminders on WhatsApp cost €19 a year.
