For the family
A birthday calendar for the whole family
Aunts, uncles, cousins, the in-laws and a growing number of grandchildren. A family has more birthdays than anyone can remember. With Hoera you put one link in the family group chat, and everyone fills in their own. The kids too.

The family chat knows, but doesn’t tell you
In almost every family there is one person who knows all the birthdays. Often grandma, sometimes an aunt with a calendar in the kitchen. The rest only hears about it when someone posts ‘Happy birthday!’ in the group chat. By then it’s too late for a card.
A wall calendar or a printable helps the person who owns it. A family birthday calendar app helps only if someone keeps it up to date. Hoera does it the other way round: the family keeps itself up to date.
Next to the wooden calendar on the wall
A wooden family birthday calendar with a tag for everyone is a lovely thing to own. Keep it. Hoera is the online version next to it: the one that the extended family can see from anywhere, that grows when someone new joins, and that sends you a reminder before the day instead of after.
How it works in a family
- 1
Add yourself
Your name, your birthday and your email. Your children go with you, with their age if you like. - 2
Share one link in the family chat
Create the group ‘Family’ and drop the link in WhatsApp. A short message is already written for you. - 3
Everyone adds their own, parents add the kids
Aunts and uncles add themselves, the parents add the grandchildren. Nobody needs an app or an account. - 4
Everyone gets a reminder
A weekly overview by email, and an earlier nudge for the favorites: the parents, the grandchildren, the one cousin you always forget.
This is how it lands in the family chat
You can change the words before you send it. Most families reply within a day, because it takes ten seconds and nobody has to install anything.
Grandchildren, nieces and nephews
Children are the birthdays that live nowhere: not on Facebook, not in your contacts, not in your calendar. In Hoera their parents add them, once. From then on the whole family sees when Milo turns four, and on the day itself the calendar shows a little cake.
- Both parents can manage the same child, so nothing is added twice.
- Children are only visible in the groups their parents choose.
- The age is shown, because with kids that is the whole point.
Your family’s details stay in the family
- Only the family group sees the family’s birthdays. There is no public profile.
- Years of birth are optional and can be hidden per group.
- Someone leaves the group, or deletes their account? They are gone right away.
The whole promise is on the privacy page. Want to compare with a wall calendar, a spreadsheet or your phone? Read how to keep track of birthdays.
Frequently asked questions
Do grandma and grandpa have to install an app?+
No. Hoera is a website. Whoever opens the link, on a phone or a computer, can join. Family without email you add to your own calendar yourself.
Can I add my children’s birthdays?+
Yes. You add your children to your profile and choose in which groups they are visible. Both parents can manage the same child, and the calendar shows how old they turn.
What about the grandchildren, nieces and nephews?+
Their parents add them. Once, in the family group. From then on grandparents, aunts and uncles all see the little ones’ birthdays, with the age.
What if someone doesn’t respond to the link?+
Then that person isn’t in it yet. Share the link again later, or add them to your own calendar yourself.
Can the family see how old I am?+
Only if you fill in your year of birth, and you can hide it per group. Otherwise they only see the day and the month.
Does it cost anything?+
No. The calendar and the email reminders are free. Only reminders on WhatsApp cost €19 a year.
